About the American Rocketry Challenge
The American Rocketry Challenge is the world’s largest rocket contest with nearly 5,000 students nationwide competing each year. The contest gives middle and high school students the opportunity to design, build and launch model rockets and hands-on experience solving engineering problems.

Frequently Asked Questions
Students currently enrolled in grades 6 through 12 can participate in the team.
The team will participate in the American Rocketry Challenge ( https://rocketcontest.org/) The team will prepare to enter their rocket in the competition by attending workshops held virtually and in-person. During the sessions, the team will learn the science involved in flying a rocket. The team will meet to test flyi the rockets 3-4 times throughout the 10-week session.
Depending on the amount of funding available (through application fees, fundraising and donations), ERG will furnish most of the supplies. If you would like to begin modeling rockets before our sessions begin, you can purchase rocket kits at your local Hobby Lobby.
The meetings will follow CDC guidelines during indoor and outdoor meetings. See information at: https://www.cdc.gov/
- Due to the circulating and highly contagious Delta variant, CDC recommends universal indoor masking by all students (age 2 and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.
- In addition to universal indoor masking, CDC recommends schools maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance between students within classrooms to reduce transmission risk.
- Students, teachers, and staff should stay home when they have signs of any infectious illness and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care.
- This guidance emphasizes implementing layered prevention strategies (e.g., using multiple prevention strategies together consistently) to protect students, teachers, staff, visitors, and other members of their households and support in-person learning.
- Localities should monitor community transmission, vaccination coverage, screening testing, and occurrence of outbreaks to guide decisions on the level of layered prevention strategies (e.g., physical distancing, screening testing).
ERG participates in the SOAR (https://soarrocketry.org/) rocket launches. SOAR honors the NAR Rocket Safety Codes, takes care of providing the permits, field, launch equipment, range organization, and safety. You are welcome to come fly. Just bring your rockets, motors, and flight supplies to join in the fun!
